What is a Dental Appliance?
It's up to us to maintain good oral health, and we need to do more than just brushing and flossing to do so. Those of us who play sports, who snore, grind or clench our teeth can use dental appliances to help preserve and protect our oral structures and the health of our entire bodies.
Dental appliances at Demmings Dental Group – including mouth guards and sleep apnea devices – are used to help protect the health of your oral cavity.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances
Sleep disorders can not only disrupt your sleep, they can also have a negative impact on your overall health and well-being.
In patients who snore, their throat tissues relax, causing their airway to become restricted and produce the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced through. For patients with sleep apnea, the throat tissues over-relax and block the airway, triggering the brain to wake them up to breathe.
At Demmings Dental Group, we offer custom-fitted oral appliances to shift the lower jaw and tongue muscles and open the airway. This helps improve airflow and prevents you from waking up throughout the night.
Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards
We offer custom-made mouth guards that fit over your teeth to protect them from damage.
Sports Guards
If you get hit in the mouth during a sports activity, a mouth guard provides a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth to protect your smile.
Night Guards
If you grind your teeth during sleep, a mouth guard will help protect your teeth from damage. If you clench your jaw, a mouth guard will also help prevent you from clenching and provide some pain relief.
